Day 5 Community Service and Science

Welcome to the Seeds of Change blog. We had a fantastic day and nobody died so that’s a plus.  This morning we woke up and had breakfast at 8 (so not too painful). After breakfast we walked the most grueling hike yet, the 100 feet over to the porch to start science. We all were super productive and will become the next generation of mad scientists. It was decided that we are going to use our bioinformatics for evil and recreate the Jurassic Park movies (just kidding, or am I).  After science, that’s what the cool kids are calling it now, we had a great lunch with fish, salad, rice, beans, and juice.  In the afternoon the group enjoyed helping some wonderful ladies at a local business (our community service project). We were split into four groups:  a group to help make some essential oils, a group to paint the turquoise detailing on the store, a group to paint the right side of the building, and a group to paint the left side of the building along with the structure next to the building.  After the walls and windows were painted and the oil made, we were given cookies and oatmeal juice and then the group was given the chance to shop for jewelry the ladies have made.  Around 4:30 we started walking back to Finca La Anita, where we were given free time to relax and prepare for dinner (and for one unfortunate soul, write this blog).  Dinner arrived and it was delicious, full of pork, salad, assorted vegetables, juice, and some weird creamy dessert (flan topped with chocolate and cocoa nibs).  We are now preparing (or we were when I wrote this) for another hour and a half of science before turning in for the evening. We all hope that everyone at home is well and not missing your wonderful children/friends/family peoples/acquaintances/enemies!
