Day 3: Science, Science and more Science

Blog 6/13/15

Today was a very eventful day. We had a science session in the morning. People were extremely tired from last night’s festivities. The first thing we did was present the proposals of our projects to the group.  We were able to get comments from the rest of the students and the wonderful knowledgeable professors. It was very constructive for many people and then we got to work on our projects until lunch. The morning we worked so hard that many forgot the morning events. After lunch, we had one-on-one sessions with the professors getting more help with directions to go on the projects. The afternoon session was super long 4.5 hours of working on the computer on hard benches and relentless sun. It was disappointing that we weren’t able to watch the Costa Rica and Korea Women’s World Cup game.  It would have been incredible to have the experience to watch with the local people, but science was super fun and productive. During the end of the afternoon science session, it started to downpour! The storm has lasted for a handful of hours as it is still raining now.  Lighting struck close and the crack was delayed a few seconds. People jumped and screamed, I think everyone was on edge after that..  Because of the productive day and the deafening sound of the rain made it hard to carry on conversations to ask or give help, so the evening session of science was cancelled. But the group bonding card games and other games continued. Some of these conversations for “fun” are incredibly deep and educational. It was too late at night for this…
